It seems the adventures of the Yorozuya have finally come to an end with the release of Gintama The Final. Gintama had a stellar 15-year run with over 300 episodes in its anime adaptation. The manga series by Hideki Sorachi spanned 77 published volumes from 2003 to 2019 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. Well, Gintoki reads that himself doesn’t he?
After becoming one of the most memorable anime series of the past two decades with video games, spin-offs, and films to add to the list, the final film for Gintama marking the end of the series was released in Japan on January 8, 2021. The film has a rating of 8.8/10 on My Anime List and 9.3/10 on IMDb!
Gintama The Final went ahead to dethrone Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train from its 12-week rule as the top-grossing film at the box office in Japan and is now heading for release in North America.
Eleven Arts acquired the license for the film to be released in North America, which also be released in English under the title Gintama: The Very Final. A new anime special titled Gintama: The Semi-Final was released on January 15 2021 which served as a prequel to the events in the film. This special release of two episodes was inspired by the manga.

Having been spawned by Altana, the energy that fuels all planets, this immortal fiend has regenerated multiple times until finally becoming Utsuro, the ultimate enemy… And he intends to take down the entire world in order to end his own life.
Gintoki and the others set out to fulfill the wishes of their teacher Shoyo and thwart Utsuro’s plans. Shinpachi, Kagura, the Shinsengumi, members of the Kabuki District, and even former enemies will join their fight.
