For the generation that grew up with the series, the collective hope for ComicCon this year is an announcement for Dragon Ball Super Season 2 to be announced. The Dragon Ball series created by Akira Toriyama began Dragon Ball Super after the conclusion of the Majin Buu Saga. The Manga for Dragon Ball Super began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine V Jump in 2015. The manga is illustrated by Toyotarou.
The anime series produced by Toei Animation ended in 2018 after Goku reaches the Ultra Instinct Form but was followed up with the movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly which was released in December 2018.

Dragon Ball Super Season 2: Rumours and Possibilities
Toei Animator Florence Jay Dominguito when asked about the release of Dragon Ball Super Season 2 said that he is looking forward to the possibility of a release in the coming future. He has been working with Toei Philippines since 2011 and has been featured on the official website for Dragon Ball.
In a video released on 3rd January 2022, a clip of Akio Iyoku’ interview was released. He is considered to be Akira Toriyama’s, right-hand man. Though the focus of Iyoku’s interview was the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero slated for an April 22, 2022 release, he appeared to have dropped a teaser possibly for Dragon Ball Super Season 2.
The new work cannot be another movie because the franchise is already releasing one this year. Also, it cannot be a new one since a new arc for the Dragon Ball Super manga was also announced separately. We as fans are speculating that Iyoku is teasing Dragon Ball Super Season 2.
Earlier sources were speculating on the announcement of Season 2 of Dragon Ball Super in late 2021. Unexpectedly, Toei Animation has announced its new project, a new Dragon Ball Super movie in the works. Fans are definitely disappointed and it is clear that the roadmap of Toei Animation does not include adapting the manga, at least in the coming months till the movie gets released. The suspense is real!
It was rumored that the announcement will come during San Diego Comicon event. But it did not take off even in any other event after SDCC. It seems TOEI Animation does not seem to want to entrust the revelation in such events. Instead, it wants an event entirely organized by the studio.
Insiders are now seeing some developments on TOEI end which is planning a big event or a stage to be announced in the next few days. According to the source, it would probably be Dragon Ball Super 2, however, there is no official confirmation.
If the rumor turns out to be true, we could see the official announcement already by the end of August. And maybe a pause of the Dragon Ball manga is a way to give Shueisha the time to organize the promotional campaign.
Dragon Ball Super 2 should resume events after the Tournament of Power Saga.
In the meantime check out the Dragon Ball Super Hero Movie trailer released a couple of months ago!
Dragon Ball Super Panel At ComicCon@Home 2021
The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has forced yet another Comic Con into the virtual space, but as it is essential, stay home and safe everyone! ComicCon@Home 2021 has a panel for Dragon Ball Super that is raising hopes for fans. While there are no official announcements for the series continuation yet, it is hoped that the panel will make a favourable announcement for the return of Dragon Ball Super Season 2.
Dragon Ball Super Season 2 Release
The new Dragon Ball Super Movie is expected to release in 2022 after it was announced to be in the works this year. Given that the production team will be working on the film for most of 2021, it is unlikely that Dragon Ball Super Season 2 will be coming even in 2022. Hoping that ComicCon@Home gives us a clearer timeline and sound announcements, along with production, the anime series could release no sooner than 2023.
Season 1 had a 131 episode run for 3 years and left at the Universal Survival Arc. The manga has naturally moved further and is currently at the Granolah the Saviour Arc. Dragon Ball Super Season 2 will begin with the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc and will be introducing some interesting new villains.
Dragon Ball Super Season 2 Cast
From what is known as of now, the Cast of Dragon Ball Super Season 1 will be reprising their roles in the upcoming season:
- Masako Nozawa/ Sean Schemmel as Goku
- Masako Nozawa/Kyle Hebert Gohan
- Mayumi Tanaka/Sonny Strait as Krillin
- Takeshi Kusao/Alexis Tipton as Trunks
- Aya Hisakawa/Monica Rial as Bulma

- Masaharu Satô/Mike McFarland Master Roshi
Dragon Ball Super News
It is speculated that news about the “Dragon Ball Super” anime will happen at Japan Expo 2022 supposed to take place between July 14 and 17, 2022. With Toei Animation confirming its presence at the event, fans are hoping that an announcement of Season 2 should come by.
Personally, I think the announcement of the “Dragon Ball Super 2” anime will happen at Jump Festa in Fall 2022, but keeping an eye on events like Japan Expo is no big deal either. The reasoning behind it is that Toei Animation has booked only 2 panels for Japan Expo and both are from One Piece Film Red. Hence chances are slim of an announcement coming by.
Here’s to hoping Dragon Ball Super gets a new season announcement soon! Stay tuned for more updates and let us know how hyped you are for the release!
