The much-awaited release of The Blue Period is just around the corner! The anime will be a Fall 2021 release. The manga series for the same is written and illustrated by Tsubasa Yamaguchi and was serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon magazine that focuses more on the seinen demographic.
Blue Period manga began in 2017 and is currently ongoing with 10 tankonbon volumes till now. The English version of the manga has been licensed by Kodansha Comics. Interestingly, The Blue Period is also a reference to Pablo Picasso himself, referring to the few years in the early 1900s when his paintings were dominated by blue and similar cold colours.
The official website of the anime has the introduction, characters and staff as well as news updates. The Blue Period manga already has a huge fanbase and has a rating of 8.7/10 on My Anime List!
The Blue Period Trailer
Blue Period has marked its debut on Netflix Japan on September 25. To promote the premiere Seven Arcs has released a brand new trailer. It introduces the first theme song of the anime based on Tsubasa Yamaguchi’s award-winning manga.
It is the second trailer after the first trailer was released on 27th April. It gives a peek into scenes with the protagonist Yatora Yaguchi. The fans know that he is a last year model student of high school who abruptly finds a calling in art. Following his inner pursuit, he decides to work hard to get admission to an arts university. One can also see new characters such as Professor Mayu Oba and students Sae Okada and Takuro Ishii. The theme song song “EVERBLUE” by the Omoinotake band was composed especially for the anime can be heard playing in the background.
The Blue Period 1 Plot and Synopsis
Kodansha Comics holds the license for the series and has added a synopsis for the story:
The story of Yatora Yaguchi is not your average high-school story. Being a part of the seinen genre, the story also feels like it has incorporated slice of life elements quite deeply into the narrative. Yatora is good at everything but still feels dissatisfaction and a loss of passion, which he finds in art. Not only is the journey about falling in love with art and making it his passion and dream in life, but it also brings forth the difficulties in pursuing these dreams.
Yatora struggles with explaining his choices and his decision of perusing art to his parents. He wants to apply to the Tokyo University of Arts for his college education and wants to be able to continue his journey with art that has now drawn him in completely.
The award-winning manga series will be bringing a lot of soul-searching and evidently wholesome content. The manga series actually won the 13th Taisho Manga Award in 2020 and also bagged Kodansha’s Best General Manga Award in the same year! It is but natural that an anime adaptation is on the way.
It does not seem that the release of the anime adaptation for The Blue Period 1 is overhyped. If anything, it is actually underhyped, much like Chainsaw Man, which has a fantastic manga and will be getting a release date for the anime adaptation in the near future! The Key Visual for the manga is created by Seven Arcs Studios and Painter Meguru Yamaguchi. Seven Arcs Studios will also be animating the series!
