One of Fall 2021‘s most anticipated new anime releases, a fantasy thriller, Platinum End anime is set to release in October 2021! The series is going to be produced by Signal.MD, which falls under the parent holding company Port IG. The anime adaptation of the series received an official green signal in December 2020 at the Jump Festa ’21.
The manga series for the title is created by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. If the name rings a bell, Ohba is known for the wildly popular and best-selling title Death Note and is also created Bakuman. Platinum End was serialized in Shueisha’s Jump Square from 2015 to 2021 and has 14 tankonbon volumes. The manga came to an end in January 2021 and the Platinum End rating is 7/10 on My Anime List.
An anime adaptation of the series by Ohba and Obata is going to come with huge expectations. With the release of the anime just around the corner, here’s all that you need to know about the upcoming release!

Viz Media holds the license for the English version of the manga. The synopsis provided by Viz Media says:
As his classmates celebrate their middle school graduation, troubled Mirai is mired in darkness. But his battle is just beginning when he receives some salvation from above in the form of an angel. Now Mirai is pitted against 12 other chosen humans in a battle in which the winner becomes the next god of the world. Mirai has an angel in his corner, but he may need to become a devil to survive.
The protagonist Mirai Kakehashi has a rough life. After being left to his abusive relatives and finding himself crushed under the weight of his own life, Mirai wants to end it all. However, he is saved by a mysterious Angel called Nasse who reveals herself as a guardian and offers him an opportunity to become a New God. Nasse also reveals to him that his foster parents caused the death of his biological parents and passes judgement upon them.
However, things don’t seem to be getting easy for Mirai anytime soon. Mirai must defeat the other 12 God Candidates in a survival battle that lasts 999 days after which the God that currently exists will retire in a sense.
The anime is reminiscent of Mirai Nikki in its narrative, which was also a spectacular survival game to become a God. The release has drawn comparison to The Future Diary in terms of its themes and overall concepts but it is believed that the story will be able to set itself apart as the story unfolds.
Platinum End Release Date
The anime adaptation of Platinum End is set for release on October 8th 2021! The first season of the anime is confirmed to have 24 episodes, meaning that there will be no cour release for this season. The manga, however, spans 14 volumes. Platinum End’s adaptation has confirmed that the 24 episodes will cover the entire manga and adapt the entire story. Part 2 of 12 episodes will stream in 2022.
Will there be Platinum End Season 2?
Platinum End will not have a Season 2 since it had been confirmed that the adaptation will entirely cover the original manga series. ‘MangaMoguraRE’ had revealed the same in a tweet in June 2021, saying “adapt the whole story of the manga.”
The pacing of the anime will be interesting to watch considering the amount of source material that is likely to be put into one season. This however still leaves room for OVAs and spin-offs.
The opening and ending themes for the anime are also in! Band-Maid will be performing OP ‘Sense’ and the EP ‘Kofuku-Ron’ or Theory of Surrender will be performed by Yuu Miyashita.
Where Can You Watch Platinum End?
The anime will air on TBS, BS11 and other channels and will also be simulcasted on Crunchyroll! Medialink has licensed the show in South and Southeast Asia. Other streaming platforms may add the anime to their platform at a later point in time.
The release time for the first episode has been announced by the website but a regular schedule for weekly release is yet to be added. The air time for the first episode of the anime according to the official website for Platinum End says:
- TBS – October 7th 2021 (Thursday) – 1:28 AM JST
- BS11 – October 8th 2021 (Friday) – 11:30 PM JST
What About Platinum End English Dub?
There is no confirmed news of an English Dub for the anime. Most English Dubs begin after the end of the Japanese series or somewhere midway. Given that Crunchyroll is simulcasting Platinum End, it is likely that Funimation will introduce an English Dub for the series along the way.

The way the Platinum End anime will release is still cryptic considering there are different directors for the two parts. Hideya Takahashi of Jojo’s Bizzare Adventures Part 5: Golden Wind fame will be directing the so-called ‘part one’ of Platinum End. Kazuchika Kise, best known for his work in the Ghost in the Shell franchise, will be directing ‘part 2’. While it is confirmed that their release will be uninterrupted, it could be that the first 12 episodes will be clubbed together and the latter 12 will be put together as one part.
