Netflix’s Arcane – What is it About?
The 2021 animated production of the Riot Games giant League of Legends sets up the lore of the world and creates backstories for a lot of characters that one can see in the game. Arcane is a 9-episode animated series produced by Riot and Fortiche and is created by Christian Linke and Alex Lee. The series was released as three acts with three episodes for each part.
The story is set in the rather utopian Piltover that is eventually contrasted by the undercity of Zaun. The story begins with four children on a mission to steal some valuable artefacts till things go rather wrong and they escape from Piltover to the undercity. Vi, Powder, Claggor and Mylo inevitably have to bear the consequences of their actions. The known head of the undercity, Vander, is a man with a convoluted past who took in the children and cared for them when they were younger.
The theft in Piltover begins waves of trouble and eventually begins a series of events that would lead to the development of Piltover as the centre of magic-powered technology known as Hextech. Siblings Vi and Powder are also set on paths they could not begin to imagine. In a twisted journey of magic, politics and family, Arcane sets up a thrilling story with its aesthetic hand-drawn art and stunning animation. The theme song for the show is Enemy by Imagine Dragons, which has its own music video in the style of the animated series.
Arcane Season 2 Announcement
When will Arcane Season 2 release?
The official Twitter for League of Legends confirmed the production status for Arcane Season 2 on November 21st 2021.
The announcement video has also been released on the official Youtube channel for the game. With the production announcement coming in November 2021, it would not be practical to assume the release anytime before the end of 2022. The team is working hard with Riot and Fortiche to deliver the Arcane 2 but Laurent is of the opinion that it won’t happen until 2023.
Fortiche production is likely to take its usual 12–16-month production cycle once it has completed the initial planning phase of development.
It is speculated that Arcane 2 will return to Netflix as early as January 2023 in its Winter Anime 2023 lineup. But in the absence of any official announcements, fans might need to wait until at least Summer 2023 before Arcane makes a comeback to the streaming giant.
The Netflix release is likely to have another season with a similar number of episodes, separated into acts. While League of Legends has only confirmed the return of the series Arcane is set to present some major storylines for the known legends in the game itself.
What will happen in Arcane Season 2?
Arcane Season 1 has built on the transition of Powder and the becoming of Jinx. Though incomplete, Vi also gets a fair share of her character growing to the place where she would be comparable to her character in League. Ekko, Viktor, Caitlyn and Jayce are yet to develop more into the likeness of themselves from the game as the series sets up their origin story of sorts.
Season 1 also ended on a major cliffhanger. Jinx kills Silco and immediately regrets it. Cait and Vi are rather battered and Jinx seems to be overwhelmed as well as enraged. A lot has transpired in the relationship between Piltover and Zaun. Jinx powers her weapon with the orb that amplifies its strength manifold and launches a shot towards the building housing the council in Piltover. The Council of seven was at the brink of taking a decision towards peace when Jinx’s shot blasts through the glass and the episode come to a close, leaving the story at an intense point.
In the absolute end, a few things also happen that will translate in Arcane Season 2. In a snippet, it may seem that Singed’s experiments may yet return a character who was assumed dead. Though just speculation, Vander may not be past the story just yet.
