This is the perfect anime season to hop on the isekai train, as the genre has been dominating some of the most popular releases in the past years. Without further ado, check out some of the best Best Summer 2021 Anime! The list has not been ranked and is definitely not exhaustive. 1. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Part 2
In a very recent development, That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime was announced for a return on July 6 2021 along with the Dub for Season 2 Part 1. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Part 1 released in January 2021 as a 12 episode series. It was announced that Season 2 would be a split-cour release. Assuming a similar distribution of episodes, Season 2 should also be returning with
Now a big title in the isekai genre, That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime revolves around a man who was killed and reborn as Rimuru Tempest. As a literal slime, Rimuru must now undertake challenging quests and travel with his companions, and defeat monarchs and demons threatening the world.
Season 1 of the anime has a rating of 8.1/10 while Season 2 Part 1 has a rating of 8.4/10 on My Anime List. This series would perhaps top the list of the Best Summer 2021 Anime!
2. Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Season 2
Another spectacular that is making a return, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is one of the most hyped returns this anime season. Season 1 of the anime sired in 2017 with 13 episodes along with an OVA. The production studio is everyone’s beloved KyoAni, which suffered huge losses due to an arson attack in 2019. The pandemic and arson incident delayed a lot of productions for the studio but now since it’s back in action, Miss Kobayashi’s Maid Dragon is definitely making it to our Best Summer 2021 Anime.
The story revolves around Kobayashi, a regular office worker who ends up pulling a sword out of a dragon on her doorstep. The dragon transforms into a human girl and introduces herself as Tohru. Tohru turns out to be a kind but chaotic help at home and ends up attracting other mystical beings including Kanna, an exiled dragon who becomes a part of their family.
The series has a rating of 8/10 on My Anime List! We strongly recommend this addition to your Summer 2021! The anime is set for release on July 8, 2021.
3. Tantei Wa Mou Shindeiru (The Detective is Already Dead)
One of the original title releases scheduled for Summer 2021, The Detective is Already Dead is scheduled for its premiere on July 4, 2021. The light novel series by Nigoju has only 5 volumes published since its inception in November 2019. The anime adaptation of the series is set for a 12 episode run.
The plot revolves around Kimizuka Kimihito who tends to have bad luck and lands in unwanted trouble. In the events of one such disaster on an emergency flight landing, a girl names Siesta announces herself as a detective and drags Kimizuka into being her assistant.
The light novel series is rated as a 7.7/10 on My Anime List! We believe this can make it to your list of Best Summer 2021 Anime!
4. The Case Study of Vanitas (Vanitas no Carte)
The manga series by Jun Mochizuki with the same title has been serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Gangan Joker since 2015. The setting of the anime is 19th century Paris, mixing genres like supernatural and steampunk. The anime adaptation is set for July 3 2021 and we cannot wait!
Vanitas is a human who claims to be a vampire doctor curing them of the illness that causes them to be predatory and hostile. The Vampire society too is divided between the Vampires of the Blue Moon and the Vampires of the Red Moon. Vanitas and Noe Archiviste set to cure vampires of their bloodlust but meet many enemies standing in their way.

5. Sonny Boy
While the original premiere was supposed to be on July 16, 2021, the first episode of the anime has already been streamed on Youtube on June 19, 2021. Regardless, the regular broadcast is expected to continue from July 16.
The anime series blends sci-fi and supernatural into the lives of high school students on a summer vacation. As another dimension opens, the students begin to discover their supernatural abilities. Now, they must survive in a world filled with supernatural beings.
The anime currently scores a 7.7/10 on My Anime List. With Episode 1 out, the series makes it to our list of Best Summer 2021 Anime.
6. My Next Life as Villainess Season 2
In this isekai rom-com, the hilarity of game-world transportations has lived up to its expectations. The light novel series by Satoru Yamaguchi was first serialized in 2014. The anime adaptation aired its first season in 2020 and is returning within a year with season 2!
Catarina Claes, a young girl from a noble family remembers her life as an otaku from a different lifetime. She quickly realizes that she is now a part of a game where the paths she has open either get her killed or exiled. As she tries t avoid that fate by maneuvering her way through the world, a series of events unfold pushing and pulling her relationship with other people in the game.
Season 1 of the anime has a rating of 7.5/10 on My Anime List! My Next Life As a Villainess Season 2 airs on July 3, 2021! A must-watch among the Best Summer 2021 Anime!
7. The Aquatope of White Sand
A delightful addition to the slice of life genre, The Aquatope of White Sand makes for a heartfelt watch as one of the Best Summer 2021 anime. While there is little available on the source material for the show, the visuals of the anime in the trailer have been breathtaking.
The story revolves around a Kuruku Misakino, a high school girl with her dream job of working at an aquarium, and Fuuka Miyazawa, an idol from Tokyo who has lost her fame and left Tokyo. The two girls meet and in spending time with each other, they explore friendship, loneliness, their dreams, and beyond.
If a touching story is your cup of tea, this is your watch for Summer 2021! The Aquatope of White Sand will be airing on July 9, 2021!
8. How A Realist Hero Built His Kingdom
How A Realist Hero Built His Kingdom is based on a light novel series by the same name written by Dojyomaru. It was first serialized in 2015 and has 15 published volumes at present. Yet another addition to the isekai collection of Best Summer 2021 Anime, here’s all the reason for the hype!
Kazuya Souma is transported to another world, into the Kingdom of Elfrieden where he has to assume the throne. To thwart the threat of the Demon Lord, Kazuya must act as the head of the Kingdom. He dedicates himself to elevate the standard of living in his lands and works to form alliances to keep the kingdom safe. As nothing ever is easy, he has entangled with battles as well as coils as he forms relationships in this world.
The series is set to air on July 4, 2021!
9. Girlfriend Girlfriend
To add a dash of rom-com to the list of Best Summer 2021 Anime, we have Girlfriend Girlfriend making it to our list. The anime adaptation is based on a manga series by the same name serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Jump since 2020.
The story revolves around Naoya Mukai who enters a relationship with his childhood friend Nagisa. Naoya is also approached by his classmate Nagisa who wants to date him. After some thought, Naoya ends up accepting both the girls as his girlfriends. Trouble starts when maintaining their love triangle as they both move in with Naoya.
The series is scheduled for a premiere on July 3, 2021!
10. Higurashi for When They Cry (Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Sotsu)
A stunning return by the Higurashi franchise makes the last of our entries into the Best Summer 2021 Anime List. Higurashi When They Cry is an anime adaptation of the murder mystery visual novel that has gained popularity over the years. Kai, Rei, and Gou have been the previous installments of the anime adaptations.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou aired 24 episodes in 2020. The upcoming season titled Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Sotsu is set in the village of Hinamizawa where unsettling events play out time and again. The impending doom on the residents of the village is noticed only by the time its too late.
This installment of the anime released its first episode on July 1 2021 and is likely to consist of 24 episodes like its predecessors.
