Tetsuya Imai‘s Bokura No Yoake aka Break of Dawn is receiving an anime movie adaptation in 2022. The science-fiction manga, Bokura No Yoake was illustrated and written by Tetsuya Imai (popular for Alice & Zoroku). The first chapter got published in 2011 and teh manga has 2 tankonbon volumes to its name. The manga was serialized in Kodansha’s seinen manga magazine, Afternoon and is printed under the Afternoon KC label.
The announcement came from Avex Pictures studio’s Twitter handle on Friday. The studio is famous for its anime like King of Prism, The Orbital Children, Summer Ghost and more!
While making the announcement, a visual was shared and said that ‘Bokura No Yoake’ is scheduled for an early Fall 2022 release date in Japan.
The visual shared shows a layout of a complex housing project. One can make out a boy standing on the roof of the building and watching the sun rise as it is happening.
Break of Dawn anime’s website also streamed a teaser trailer for the Bokura No Yoake movie.

Avex Pictures studio has released the first Bokura No Yoake movie trailer on the 18th of March 2022. The trailer gives us a sneak peek into the futuristic world. The trailer also teases us with hints of where the protagonist resides. One can also make out the first phrases of Gustav Holst’s famous classical lyrics “Jupiter, Bringer of Jollity.“
The description of teaser trailer describes the plot as:
Summer, 2049 A.D. A boy meets an “unknown being” from outer space. An unprecedented top-secret mission begins 27 years later.
Bokura No Yoake Plot
Bokura No Opening set off in the year 2038, revolves around the protagonist Yuuma Sawatari who is an elementary school kid who is crazy about anything related to stars. His life changes when his parents bring home a robot called Nanako. Yuuma, who initially thinks of Nanako as a household robot, has his mind changed when he talks about space to Nanako as the robot’s system crashes and is taken over by what seems to be an alien that wants the help of Yuuma to return back to its planet. Bokura No ending deals with the ultimate conclusion of whether the alien can return to its homeland and all about its consequences.
Synopsis
In 2038, Yuuma Sawatari is an elementary school kid who loves everything about space and astronomy. He was initially excited when his parents bought a robot called Nanako, but he was disappointed when he learned that she was basically just a boring housekeeping robot. However, when he does finally try to talk to her about space, something strange happens. Her system crashes and is taken over by what claims to be a marooned alien ship! When will Bokura No Yoake movie release?
Avex Pictures has officially confirmed that Bokura No Yoake will release in early Fall 2022 release. Apart from this, the date has not been revealed. But it is likely to get a theatrical release in Japan in early October, say 7th or 14th October.

Netflix and Crunchyroll/Funimation are the expected streaming platforms to buy the streaming rights of Bokura no Yoake movie once it gets premiered in theatres.
Bokura No Yoake – Manga vs Anime
Serialized in “Afternoon” (published by Kodansha), the candidate for the Seiun Award masterpiece SF juvenile manga is set to be animated. The manga had a successful run from 25th January 2011 to 25th October 2011. The movie will follow the same plot and storyline as the manga but with subtle changes.
There is no update on Bokura No Yoake cast and voice characters from teh studio. Will expect to get more details as the premiere date approaches closer.
