There is a new isekai anime on the block and we need to talk about it! Dead Mount Death Play sounds like a rather grim name but the anime adaptation for the dark fantasy manga is set to release in 2023 and apparently, the expectations from this release are pretty high! Square Enix announced the anime adaptation of the manga series that was originally published in their magazine.
Dead Mount Death Play is a manga series by Ryohgo Narita that began publication in the Young Gangan magazine in 2017. The illustrator for the series is Shinta Fujimoto. The manga is currently ongoing with 9 published volumes, with Volume 10 expected to be released in November 2022. Yen Press is publishing the English version of the manga simultaneously with the periodic Japanese release.

What is Dead Mount Death Play Plot
As far as isekai anime go, the plot usually revolves around someone in the modern human world dying and being reincarnated in a different world with magic and elements of fantasy. Dead Mount Death Play take sit the other way. According to the official synopsis by Yen Press, we begin with the fight to the death between the legendary hero Calamity Crusher and the powerful necromancer called the Corpse God. As the battle raged, the Corpse God understood that luck in battle was not on his side and chose to attempt one last tactic that could save him – reincarnation!
Instead of being born as a kinsman in the same world, the Corse God finds himself in the body of a young boy in modern-day Shinjuku! Polka Shinoyama had just been murdered and the Corpse God ended up taking over his body. The Corpse God’s search for peace fails even in the modern world as the wrong people begin to take an interest in his host and his life. After making a new life for himself in this world, he refuses to let his new friends and chosen people be harmed by anything. The ancient being will do all in his power to keep the peace but for how long?
When is the Dead Mount Death Play anime Release Date?
The official announcement by Square Enix has just come in, confirming a Spring 2023 release for Dead Mount Death Play. King Amusement Creative streamed the trailer for the anime announcing an April 2023 release. The anime is likely to release in a single cour with 12-14 episodes for one quarter of the year. The exact number of episodes in the anime along with a number of details are yet to be confirmed.
Given that there are currently 9 volumes of the manga that have been published, there could also be a Dead Mount Death Play Season 2!
Where Can I Watch Dead Mount Death Play?
The streaming platforms expected to host the Dead Mount Death Play anime have not been announced yet. Crunchyroll, Hulu, or Netflix could be streaming the show in the Spring 2023 anime calendar. The TV broadcast schedule for Dead Mount Death Play is expected to be announced a month before the anime actually releases. If Crunchyroll streams the anime, Dead Mount Death Play could also get an English Dub release which is usually a few months after the Japanese audio release.

Manabu Ono is the director of the anime as well as an additional script supervisor along with Yukie Sugiwara and Yoriko Tomita. Takaharu Okuma is the sub-director and Hisashi Abe is the character designer. GEEK TOYS is credited with animating the series. F.M.F is the music composer for the series. Takayuki Yamaguchi is the sound director and HALF H.P STUDIO is working on sound production.
