The reboot of the popular shoujo anime is getting a compilation film! The Fruits Basket movie has been scheduled for premiere in Japan on February 18th 2022 and we’re here for it! The official website of the anime revealed the compilation film, much like the ones for Haikyuu!! and One Piece, will cover all the events of the anime and then some more.
The production and main cast for the anime movie have been revealed and here are all the details that you need to know!
About Fruits Basket
The plot for the anime revolves around Tohru Honda, an orphan who comes across the Soma family. The twelve members are afflicted by the twelve signs of the Chinese zodiac. She promises to keep their secret and continues to live with them. She witnesses their pain and does her best to soothe them. Her presence has a good influence on the signs as she feels determined to break their curse.
The first version of the anime adaptation was released in 2001. The 2019 reboot aimed to adapt the entirety of the original manga which was serialized from 1998 to 2006. The final season of the anime has a rating of 9.1/10 on My Anime List.
What will Fruits Basket Movie cover?
The compilation Fruits Basket Movie is expected to be titled “Fruits Basket – Prelude” and will include the parts that the anime series did not cover. The movie will include Kyoko and Katsuya’s story that will essentially fall into Tohru’s parents and their lives. Not only will be a prelude but will also continue a little bit of the story after the ending of the anime’s reboot. The key visual for the movie has also been released!
When will Fruits Basket Movie release?
The Reboot of the anime was released in 2019 and ended with its final season in 2021. Funimation and Crunchyroll streamed the seasons of the anime as they were released in Japan. The anime met with a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic but picked up again soon after. There are 63 episodes for the anime across 3 seasons. The English dub Fruits Basket, all seasons, is streaming on Funimation, Crunchyroll and Hulu. The manga is made available by Yen Press.
The original main cast of the anime is expected to return to the Fruits Basket Movie for their roles. The film will also be available on a Blu-Ray release the same day that it hits the theatres. The Fruits Basket Movie is scheduled for release in Japan on February 18th 2022. Theatrical limited edition Blu-ray will also be released at the same time. As of now, we do not have information about the movie’s premiere in the West.
More details on the format or the length of the movie have not been revealed. But few leaks have come out that give details about the registration of a new domain (https://fruba-movie.jp/ ). It probably hints at the story of Tohru’s parents to be covered in a movie.
Fruits Basket Prelude, Trailer & New Key Visual Unveiled
The official website of Fruits Basket: Prelude has unveiled the trailer of the film and a new key visual on its website. The key visual shows Tohru in the company of his parents on a beach. The relationship between the girl, the father and the mother has been made typically for the film but was never shown in the series.
As the days are closing on the official release date, another trailer was released on the official website of the Fruits Basket prelude movie. The opening theme is titled Niji to Kite by Trio is revealed.
Fruits Basket series has surpassed Fullmetal Alchemist on MyAnimeList as the anime with the highest rating. Needless to say that the studio has promised the movie to be of the highest level, but we will have to wait until February 18th to be sure.
