Mobile Suit Gundam’s return has not gone unnoticed. Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury Part 2 has been announced and we have every reason to be hyped about this release. The last full anime from the Gundam franchise, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans was released in 2015 followed by Season 2 in 2016.
The Gundam franchise has expanded exponentially since its inception in the late 1970s. It has almost shaped the existing mecha genre as we know it today. Gundam was the Gundam Breaker Battleogue Project that was released in October 2021 and focused on a short anime series along with a series of GUNPLA releases, the Gundam Playable Models for the battle-ready mechs of the Gundam universe.
The Gundam Breaker Battlogue Project by Bandai Namco as it is called is aimed at strengthening the link between GUNPLA-themed video games and the actual GUNPLA releases. The six-episode short-film series is a part of the GUNPLA project that covers additional anime and games.
Before this, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway was also released in 2021 followed by Hathaway Noa, a character first introduced in UC Timeline’s Char’s Counterattack.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury was first announced in September 2021 at the Dai 2-Kai Gundam Conference. The project was aimed at garnering the interest of fans from newer generations and gaining engagement from them by growing the scale of their development according to Bandai Namco’s Chief Gundam Officer, Koji Fujiwara.
Set in the Ad Stella timeline in the year 122, massive corporations commodity humankind’s venture into space. With humanity settling into the reach beyond Earth, the use of cybernetics and prosthetics called GUND units increases vastly. Ericht Samaya, using the alias Suletta Mercury enrolls in the esteemed Asticassia School of technology on the lone planet of Mercury. The academy is sponsored by the Beneritt Group, the corporation dominating the production of Gundam suits.
Since the series is being released over two anime seasons, it is likely that Gundam The Witch from Mercury Part 2 will continue after a major cliffhanger or a time skip at the end of Mobile Suit Gundam Witch from Mercury Part 1. This is also the first Gundam series with a female protagonist!
When Will Mobile Suit Gundam The Witch from Mercury Part 2 be Released?
Gundam The Witch from Mercury Part 2 has been slated for a Spring 2023 release! The second cour with 10-14 episodes will air in April 2023 but a specific release date has not been announced yet. The broadcast schedule for Gundam The Witch from Mercury is already out with the channels hosting Part 1 of the anime. Mobile Suit Gundam The Witch from Mercury Episode 1 aired on October 2 2022 and will end in December before resuming in the next cour.
Where Can I Watch Gundam The Witch from Mercury Part 2?
The official website for the anime revealed that it would take the Nichi-5 slot on Sundays. The anime has weekly releases at 5:00 PM JST on MBS network channels. The first cour of Gundam The Witch from Mercury Part 1 is running on MBS and TBS channels and the second cour will take the same slot once it begins the run in April 2023. Streaming platforms have not announced if they will be hosting the anime outside Japan.

Hiroshi Kobayashi is directing the anime at Sunrise Studios/ Bandai Namco Filmworks. Ryo Ando is the co-director of the series. Ichiro Ouckichi is the series composer and scriptwriter and Mogumo is credited with original character designs for The Witch from Mercury. Marie Tagashira, Juro Toida, and Hirotoshi Takaya are drawing the characters and Takashi Ohmama is the music composer. Kenji Teraoka, JNTHED, Wataru Inada, Kanetake Ebikawa, Ippei Gyobu, and Takayuki Yanase are mechanical designers for the anime.
The opening and ending themes for Gundam The Witch from Mercury Part 2 are yet to be announced. The posters, key visuals, and trailers for the second cour are going to be released in the Winter 2023/ Spring 2023 calendar.
