Jump Festa ’22 has dropped a lineup of new anime and to our delight, Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku has officially been announced! The manga series by Yuji Kaku began in 2018 in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ and came to an end in 2021. The manga spans 13 volumes and has already garnered critical acclaim.
In the recent announcement that came in, MAPPA has been named as the studio working on Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku. MAPPA’s fame with Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan Season 4, and the upcoming Chainsaw Man anime raise expectations for this upcoming release.
The manga for the series is rated a solid 8.2/10 on My Anime List!

Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku Trailer
The trailer got released during the Jump Festa event in 2022. It landed in controversy with fans claiming that MPPA got every shot of the trailer almost pre-animated.
This has led to disappointment among fans leading them to believe that the anime might follow the same trend that other pre-animated trailers had where the full showing of the staff who worked on it was at the end. Normal trailers that use content from regular episodes don’t do that.
What is Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku About?
Among the best manga releases in the past years, Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku has made a name for itself. Now that an anime adaptation is on the way, it’s time to familiarize yourself with this tale in Japan’s Edo Period. The story follows Gabimaru The Hollow, a ninja known to be the strongest in Iwagakure who cannot seem to be killed and who believes that it’s his love for his wife that keeps him alive.
He is captured during an assassination mission and ends up on death row. The executioner, Yamada Asaemon Sagiri sees his superhuman body and offers him a chance to have his crime pardoned. The Shogunate desires the elixir of life in the legendary realm of Shisenkyo but has failed to get it even with five execution teams that failed to return.
A group of death row convicts is sent along with a Yamada Asaemon executioner who must return with the convict if the pardon is to be given. Sagiri comes from the legendary executioner family and is known as the only female executioner to be appointed.
While the opening and ending themes for the anime have not been announced yet, the first visual for Hell’s Paradise is out! The franchise also has a stage play planned for 2022 and has existing spin-offs to the main manga.
Official synopsis reads
“Gabimaru the Hollow, a ninja of Iwagakure Village known for being cold and emotionless, was set up by his fellow ninja and is now on death row. Tired of killing and betrayal, he wants to die. However, no method of execution works on him because as much as the seemingly apathetic Gabimaru refuses to admit it, he does have a reason to live. He wants to return to his wife, who was the reason why he softened up and failed to be an effective assassin. Thus, he refuses to die.
Asaemon the Decapitator, a famous executioner, sees this and has a proposal for the ninja. She wants Gabimaru to join an expedition to an island south of Japan in search of the elixir of life in exchange for a full pardon by the Shogunate. However, this island isn’t a normal island: it’s believed to be Paradise.”

Jump Festa ’22 has come in only with the initial announcements for Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku. However, in the absence of any news, it appears Jigokuraku anime has not got any 2022 release window. 2023 Spring and Summer appear to be a remote possibility because MAPPA is already booked for both the final part of Shingeki no Kyojin as well Jujutsu Kaisen season 2.
