One of the best anime of the 2010s is constantly expected to return but each time fans are met with another waiting sign. Hunter x Hunter Season 7 has been anticipated for a very long time with little avail with the outpour seen on Reddit and Instagram at frequent intervals. Hunter x Hunter 2011 was the remake of the 1999 original release of the anime.
Yoshihiro Togashi, also the creator of the legendary Yu Yu Hakusho, created Hunter x Hunter which began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 1998 and is actually still ongoing. There is a lot to unpack about how the anime adaptation and the manga for the series have fared over time but the main concern at hand is whether or not Hunter x Hunter Season 7 will finally return.

What is Hunter x Hunter About?
Hunter x Hunter follows Gon Freecss and his friends that exist in a world where licensed hunters take on dangerous tasks and missions in exchange for rewards. Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio qualify for Hunter’s license test to fulfill their dreams. The world of Hunter x Hunter has an excellent power system called Nen. Ren, Zetsu, Ten, and Hatsu are the main components of Nen that hunters must master to become true hunters.
Additionally, every Hunter has their own Nen Type which put them in categories – Enhancer, Manipulator, Transmuter, Conjurer, Emitter, and Specialist. Gon and the other hunters encounter dangers that threaten the order of the world and also take challenges for sport. Gon shares his dream of being a hunter like his father Ging, who left him with Gon’s aunt when he was an infant. Gon aims to find his father and prove to him that he’s become an excellent hunter.
What is Hunter x Hunter Season 7 news?
The details on Hunter x Hunter Season 7 were blurry. However, there is a flurry of activity with a recent viral tweet allegedly from the series creator, Yoshihiro Togashi himself. Though the tweet is from a new account, but it has managed to garner more than 216K likes.
The unknown account @Un4v5s8bgsVk9Xp has captioned it with ”4 more episodes for the time being” with an image of a rough drawing possibly of a manga panel. As can be seen in the tweet below, he simply depicted a tree, not revealing much of the story.
The Hunter X fans are assuming that the tweet is from the alias of Yoshihiro Togashi but officially there is no confirmation. To add spice to it, One Punch Man author, Yasuke Murata also retweeted it and is following the mystery Twitter handle.
Hunter x Hunter 2011 wrapped up with 148 episodes, concluding the 13th Chairman election Arc following the Chimera Ant Arc. The manga for the series has progressed with a lot of hiccups since 2008 following the health of the mangaka and legal issues with the publishers.
It is rumoured that the author Togashi is getting ready for a comeback on Weekly Shonen Jump as soon as 10 storyboards are ready. Since the mangaka has reached sixth, it will take a while before we see him in action. And given the number, it is likely that this time too it will be a publication of only ten chapters before it returns to an indefinite hiatus.
The original Hunter x Hunter was released with 62 episodes barely a year after the manga began which means the original series diverges quite a bit but is amazing regardless. Hunter x Hunter Season 7 should begin with the Dark Continent Arc that takes place right after where the anime left off.
Hunter x Hunter Season 7 Dark Continent Arc
Ging reveals to Gon that he and his fellow hunters have identified the vastness that lies beyond the known realm and is in every mind to discover the mysteries that lie beyond their worlds. Soon after, the Kakin empire announces an expedition into the Dark Continent and ropes in Chairman Netero’s Son, Beyond.
The Zodiacs get caught up in this along with Leorio and Kurapika who are eventually hired as well. Ging joins Beyond’s party and finally, the V5 sponsors both the Kakin and Beyond’s groups to lead an expedition to the Dark Continent.
When Will Hunter x Hunter Season 7 release?
The better question at the moment is ‘Is there going to be a Hunter x Hunter Season 7?’. Fans have waited for 11 since the last anime release of Hunter x Hunter came out. Last year, the manga crossed 1000 days without releasing a single chapter.
While this is disheartening for fans, Yoshihiro Togashi has been struggling with his health to the point he has asked his wife, Naoko Takeuchi (also the creator of Sailor Moon) to complete the story if he passes away. Togashi has stated that he has the script for the story forward and will deliver it regardless of what happens.
It is a challenge to predict the release for Hunter x Hunter Season 7 considering the issues surrounding it. Madhouse release the anime adaptation of the series in 2011 and has not updated on any developments around the anime as of late.
While the anime does have enough content to have a season covering the Dark Continent Arc and the Succession Contest Arc after it, there seems to be little in motion to substantiate that claim.
Hunter x Hunter Gungi Board Game is now Real!
The famous Gungi board game from Hunter x Hunter finally has an actually playable release! Meruem and Komugi’s story in the Chimera Ant Arc revolves heavily around their Gungi play. The game feels a lot like three-dimensional chess.
The objective of the game is to checkmate the opponent’s king on a 9×9 board by stacking up to three pieces and maneuvering them around. While the game was not explained in detail in the original series, Universal Music has recreated the rules and pieces for real-life play. There is a short explainer for the game that is also available on Youtube!
