Komi Can’t Communicate will be getting an anime adaptation in the coming Fall 2021 season! Fall 2021 is guaranteed to be a loaded anime season. With so many good titles on the way, here’s one more amazing release to add to your list!
Komi Can’t Communicate is a manga series written and illustrated by Tomohito Oda. The manga began serialization in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday in 2016 and currently has 21 tankonbon volumes. In a 2020 poll, the series was voted as the ‘Most Wanted Anime Adaptation’ and it seems that fans are getting their wish granted. Along with the upcoming anime adaptation, the series also has an 8-episode live-action TV Series!

Viz Media hold the license for the English version of the manga and has added a synopsis for the series:
Timid Tadano is a total wallflower, and that’s just the way he likes it. But all that changes when he finds himself alone in a classroom on the first day of high school with the legendary Komi. He quickly realizes she isn’t aloof—she’s just super awkward. Now he’s made it his mission to help her on her quest to make 100 friends!
Komi Can’t Communicate is a slice of life, school-based rom-com. Shouko Komi is what is known as a bishoujo, or a stunningly beautiful girl. But as it turns out, her elegance and stoic demeanour is rather misunderstood. She is an awkward person and does not know how to communicate, thus the title. In this coming of age story, Komi slowly grows to learn how to make friends and communicate with people around her.
The official website for the anime adaptation has added a promotional video for the upcoming series and has also announced new characters and the ending theme song. Kitri will be performing the ending theme for the anime titled Hikareinochi.
Ayumu Watanabe is the Chief Director, Deko Akao is the series composer, Kazuki Kawagoe is the director of the series at OLM and Atuko Nakajima is in charge of character design.
Komi Can’t Communicate Anime Release Date
Komi Can’t Communicate is confirmed for a Fall 2021 release! Along with the ranks of Demon Slayer Season 2, 86 Eighty Six Season 2 and Fena: Pirate Princess which are also slated for a Fall 2021 release, Komi Can’t Communicate will be released on October 6th 2021!
The anime series will air on NHK General at 10:45 PM JST. The availability of anime on streaming services is not yet known.
For those who also want to go through the manga, the first three chapters of the manga are available for readers for free online on Viz. The remaining chapters need a membership that allows access to their entire catalog for $1.99 per month!
