The giant of Shonen anime has returned! One Piece Film Red is Scheduled for a 2022 release and we cannot wait! The last movie that was released from the One Piece franchise was One Piece Stampede! in 2019. With the new movie finally on the way, here’s a look at the upcoming One Piece Film Red!
While One Piece is no stranger to anyone in the anime world, a primer for the ones getting into One Piece or looking forward to the release of the live-action series is due. One Piece is an action-adventure manga series created by mangaka Eiichiro Oda that began publication in 1997 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump.
There have been several theatrical films and OVAs that have been released for the series along with the main ongoing anime, only adding to the massive fan following of the Big Three of the Shonen World.

One Piece Film Red Trailer
After Gold and Stampede, One Piece Film Red will be the 15th film set to release in 2022. Following the trend, the franchise has continued to keep a color name in the title of the movie. This time it is Red because the emperor Shanks the Red will be one of the fundamental characters of this story.
The official teaser of ONE PIECE RED revealed yesterday shows the pirate so loved by all fans who unfortunately make a rare appearance. The trailer gives a shocking disclosure that Shanks has a daughter who will play a pivotal character.
One Piece Film Red official trailer was unveiled by Toei Animation a couple of days ago. One can see at the beginning trailer play, flashback scene with Shanks the Red and his mysterious daughter Uta. When out of the flashback one can see a mega-concert by Uta who is a famous singer.
We also get introduced to the figures we know about. They are Admiral Akainu, Law and Bepo, Koby and Helmeppo and the pirate Bartolomeo.
One Piece: Red Movie Leaks
The ONE PIECE: RED trailer did not give much insight into the storyline except for introducing new characters. The film will debut in Japanese theatres on Saturday, 6th August.
Here we have the first set of leaks in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. They are the new official poster of the film. The image currently appears in low quality and one can make out Luffy, Shanks and Uta, the daughter of the Emperor
About One Piece – Beginning the Cruise!
One Piece is the tale of Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who wants to become the pirate king and sets out to create his own pirate crew. Luffy and his crew of Strawhat Pirates journey through the Grand Line in search of Gol D. Roger’s famous treasure – One Piece. The island of Raftel at the very end of the Grand Line holds the treasure and only in finding it can one be crowned as the next pirate king. Thus begins an adventure of making friends, and enemies and being on the cruise!
The manga for One Piece itself has over 1000 chapters that currently sit at 102 volumes. The anime adaptation for the series began in 1999 by Toei Animation and has been ongoing since then. There are currently 1015 episodes of the anime series spread across 20 official seasons.
Over a span of a few years, it is covered in 14 movies, a series of light novels, and multiple video games. With its influence over pop culture, One Piece is undoubtedly a force to reckon with!
One Piece Film Red – Where Are the Straw Hats?!
One Piece Film Red is going on a different cruise this time! While an official synopsis is not out yet, the trailer has brought something very shocking and exciting for One Piece Fans! The anime series is currently in its Wano Kingdom Arc but steps aside to bring in an entirely new character who seems to be related to Shanks! The trailer shows a girl called Uta, who Shanks calls his daughter!!! The Straw Hats run in with Uta who seems to have a pirate crew of her own.
The storyboard has gotten requests from Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the series, to bring in a director who is not related to the anime series. The second request seems to be fulfilled by Uta, by having an important role assigned to a female character. One Piece often gives its characters tragic backstories and the involvement of Shanks in this equation just increases the excitement for this release!
Uta also seems to be a resident of the sky islands given the wings in her character design. The poster launched with her character has the line ‘Luffy, stop being a pirate’ on it. From the looks of it, Uta will be the main antagonist of the upcoming movie.
Shueisha’s Jump Fest ’22 at the end of last year revealed that One Piece Film Red will be released in 2022. The event also dropped the “rock x pirate” character design theme for the straw hats along with a touch of medieval armour aesthetics. Key visuals for the anime film have been dropped along with a trailer that teases a very interesting turn of events!
When Will One Piece Film Red Release in the US?
The Japanese theatre release for One Piece Film Red has been scheduled for a Summer 2022 opening! The film will open in the theatres on August 6th! As for an international release of the movie, it usually takes about 3-6 months after the Japanese theatre release for the film to open in the US.
That being said, Crunchyroll has confirmed that One Piece Film Red will get a theatrical release in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand in Fall 2022. The anime movie will be screened in Japanese and English subtitles and an English dub. More details about the dates in different regions will be revealed at Anime Expo on July 2 by Toei Animation.
It has to be noted that the Anime autumn calendar starts in the USA on September 23 and ends on December 21. One can expect the One Piece Film Red Release in the US within these dates.

Goro Taniguchi has worked with the One Piece franchise before and is directing the upcoming movie. Tsutomu Koroiwa is the screenplay writer for the film and Eiichiro Oda himself is the executive producer. Additional production staff as well as the music for One Piece Film Red will be announced in the upcoming months!

Q. Is One Piece Film Red about Shanks?
A. One Piece Film Red will be starring Shanks along with the Straw Hat pirates but it is difficult to say if this movie will be about Shanks. It in fact focuses on his daughter Uta, who has now finally been introduced! Shanks is often called ‘Red Hair’ which may lead people to believe that the movie is about him and his origin story but it is very likely that even though he may not be the centre of the movie, a lot of things about Shanks and his past with Uta will be revealed.
Q. Is the new One Piece movie Red canon?
A. A lot of content in the One Piece canon clashes with some of the films that have their original storyline. That said, many One Piece movies are simply standalone releases that do not translate to the main storyline of the anime or manga. One Piece Film Red is currently in a grey area since it concerns one of the Four Emperors, Shanks. It is still unlikely that this movie will cause significant ripples in the main canon of One Piece.
