Makoto Shinkai has earned a well-deserved place in the category of best director in the Japanese animation world. It is all due to the success of his last two movies titled “Your name” and “Weathering With You” which raked up extraordinary box office numbers. The director’s next work will be titled “Suzume no Tojimari” as announced in December 2021.

Makoto Shinkai got the biggest opening ever in his lifetime with Suzume with the movie clocking a consistent rank at the box office. Shinkai’s feature film has managed to sneak in among the greatest historical sensations of the Japanese animation industry.
When is Suzume no Tojimari release date?
Announced before Christmas by CoMix Wave Films, the animation studio for which Shinkai works about the arrival of his new project titled – Suzume no Tojimari. The plot is set in a post-apocalyptic world. It was speculated to debut in Japan in the Fall of 2022. Now we have a date, a key visual revealing the protagonist, and an upcoming teaser.
Suzume no Tojimari movie, the next from Makoto Shinkai is coming on 11th November 2022. While announcing the date, the studios also shared a key visual to appreciate its protagonist. 11-11 can be seen on the visual shared in the tweet hinting at the broadcast date.
The tagline on the visual reads, “I’ll see you later.”
In the visual one can see the key character Suzume, a 17-year-old girl from Kyūshū town from the rear. She can be seen walking towards the closed door of a former hot springs town. “A ryokan-style inn lies derelict and abandoned, the rooms overrun with curling ivy, signs pitted and rusted…”
Shinkai’s Suzume no Tojimari release outside Japan announced
Suzume no Tojimari release date in theaters in India has been announced. The Movie is listed on the PVR Cinemas website for March 24, 2023.

Along with the premiere date announcement, the tweet also shared the details of an upcoming teaser video on its YouTube channel. It will be released on the Toho MOVIE channel on Sunday, 10th April 10th at 20:00 hours 7:00 a.m. EDT).
When will Suzume no Tojimari movie release globally?
The movie’s premiere date announced is applicable to Japanese theatres only. Shinkai has confirmed that he has not yet decided on a title for Western distribution, but hopes to be able to travel the world on the occasion of the promotional campaign.
Taking into account the release date of “Suzume no Tojimari”, and considering the reality that a simultaneous release is still something apparently unfeasible today, one can speculate on an international release in the first quarter of 2023. These speculations have been laid to rest with confirmation coming from Crunchyroll.
On Friday, May 20, Crunchyroll announced that director Makoto Shinkai‘s “Suzume no Tojimari” will also hit theatres around the world, with the exception of Asia. Its premiere is scheduled in the Winter Anime 2023 lineup.
The new Makoto Shinkai film will reach the whole world thanks to Sony Pictures Entertainment, a company that has been licensing its distribution for Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, Africa and certain parts of Europe. Meanwhile, for the French and German-speaking territories of Europe, it will be Wild Bunch International.

Who will be part of Suzume no Tojimari movie cast?
The Voice cast has not yet been revealed. We know that Shinkai has retained his team of your name and Garden of Words. He will be the director cum writer of the movie. Character designing will be taken up by Masayoshi Tanaka and Kenichi Tsuchiya will be the animation director. CoMix Wave Films and Story Inc. are producing the movie. TOHO is distributing the film.
Plot of Suzume no Tojimari
The title Suzume no Tojimari could be translated as “Suzume’s Closed Door”, with Suzume referring both to a sparrow, a translation of the term, and to the name of the protagonist. According to Natalie.mu leaks, is the story of a girl who goes around Japan in ruins to close the doors that have caused misfortune. A road movie from Kyushu to the rest of the archipelago will follow her liberation and her growth.
Shinkai has hinted that the movie is more about “closing doors” rather than opening them. This is the reason why one should go and watch it in the movie theatre on Friday, 11th November.
Suzume, a 17-year-old girl who lives in a quiet town in Kyushu, encounters a traveling young man who tells her “I’m looking for a door.” She follows after him and discovers a weathered door in the ruins in the mountains, as if it were the only thing left standing from a collapse. As if drawn by something, Suzume reaches for the door…
Before long, doors begin to open one after another in various parts of Japan. As disasters come from the far side of the doors, the open doors must be closed.
The stars, the setting sun, and the morning sky—in that place she wandered into, there was a sky that seemingly blended all of time together. Guided by the mysterious doors, Suzume’s “door-locking journey” begins.
