With The current Attack on Titan Season coming to a close, there are talks of a potential Attack on Titan Season 5 that could be following this season given the kind of adaptation MAPPA has planned. The production team has been rather elusive about the details but should be making announcements the day the final episode of the season airs after a 2-week gap.
Attack on Titan began as Hajime Isayama’s series that was serialized in Kodansha’s Besstasu Shonen Magazine from 2009 to 2021. After an exceptional 12-year-run, the manga ended in April 2021. There are currently 34 tankonbon volumes of the same with over 100 million copies in circulation!
Attack on Titan Final Season Part 1 is rated 9/10 on My Anime List as well as IMDb!
Attack on Titan Final Season Till Now
*Spoilers Ahead*
Attack on Titan Part 1 ended with the Marleyan invasion with Reiner and Colt arriving as Pieck places Eren in the perfect spot for an ambush. Eren transforms into a titan and dares Reiner to come down and fight him. The final battle begins where the Colossal Titan first bashed down the walls and let the titans in – Shiganshina District.
Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2 sees the rise of the Jaegerists and the death of a few more characters. Eren and Zeke revisit Eren’s memories and see Grisha’s fall to Eren’s will. The powers of the Attack Titan is revealed to Zeke who still believes he is in control until Eren makes the Founder Ymir go against the Will of the Royal Blood and stand up for herself.
Eren succeeds and triggers the Rumbling, breaking free millions of Titans in the walls while turning into the Founder himself. Annie breaks free from her hardened shell and rejoins Mikasa, Jean and Armin. Hange tends to a wounded Levi, a man who refuses to die. Pieck and Magath from the Marleyan Army join them as they move to stop Eren’s destruction.
As of the latest episode, Episode 86 of the entire series, the Jaegerists hold the Azumabito at gunpoint, Magath and Kieth Shadis sacrifice themselves to let Hange’s group escape to Marley to stop Eren’s Rumbling that is slowly wiping out the world.
Is Attack on Titan Season 5 possible?
There is only one episode of Attack on Titan lift to release this season which has caused a lot of buzzing on the internet. Reddit, Twitter and every other social media platform have busied themselves in trying to predict MAPPA’s next move in terms of concluding the Attack on Titan anime adaptation.
The ending of this epic series seems to be going one of two ways – Attack on Titan Season 5 or an Attack on Titan Movie. The possibility of another season for Attack on Titan is a little bleak given the number of chapters left for MAPPA to adapt into a new season.
The last episode of the season will adapt Chapter 130 of the manga, leaving the animation till Chapter 139.5 open to possibilities which include Attack on Titan Season 5 or a potential movie release that would cover the last 9.5 chapters of the manga. MAPPA is currently animating one chapter per episode.
The actual advantage of having Attack on Titan Season 5 is that the remaining chapters could fit efficiently without rushing or skipping parts. There are rumours that MAPPA may add or change the ending of Attack on Titan which would essentially mean Attack on Titan Season 5 could be a potential end to the series by making an approximate 10-episode series.
The real catch here is that Attack on Titan Season 4 has already been called the Final Season which would not make sense if another season followed after it. Fans will only get the real answer once the last episode of the current season ends in 2 weeks. If MAPPA decides to make announcements before that, we will bring you all the updates!
When Will Attack on Titan Season 5 Release?
Ideally, the day of the release of the last episode should bring in announcements of another season if it is to follow.
The best possible opportunity of release will be Summer 2022/ Fall 2022 and not delaying the release to 2023. Fans who have been following the anime since its beginning have already waited 9 years to see the end of it and the final stretch is right around the corner.
Attack on Titan Season 5 Cast
The main cast of the anime is expected to continue appearing in the potential upcoming Attack on Titan Season 5. If the anime ends where it is expected to end, Attack on Titan Season 5 will cover the full brunt of that the Rumbling will unleash on the world, wiping out countries at a time. The finale should include:
- Yuki Kaji as Eren Jaeger
- Maria Inoue as Armin Arlert
- Yui Ishikawa as Mikasa Ackermann
- Yoshimasa Hosoya as Reiner Braun
- Hiro Shimono as Connie Springer
- Kisho Taniyama as Jean Kiristein
